Tuncer Bağışkan was born in Nicosia on January 21st, 1947. In 1972, he graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Prehistoric and Classic Archeology, as an archaeologist. After working in England for two years, he started work in Cyprus in 1975. He did archaeological research in Cyprus. He retired in 2000, and has been a member of Culture and Art Advisory Board. In 1987, he started his folkloric studies under the Folk Art Institute (HAS-DER) of which he is still a member. He concentrated his studies on the subjects of sacred tombs, prayer for rain, spells, death, and spiritual beliefs. Most of his studies were published in the Folkloric Magazine during his editorship between 1989-1993. Due to his contributions to the folkloric studies, the Folk Art Institute awarded him with the “Prize for Contributing Folkloric Studies” in 1994. Locally, he delivered speeches in conferences and submitted papers in different symposiums. Most of his papers, which he submitted in different Folk Art Institute symposiums, were published in the following books: “Folkloric Studies II (1997)”, “Folkloric Studies III (2001)”, “Folkloric Studies IV (2002)”. His first book “Death in Turkish Cypriot Folkloric Studies” was published in 1997.
